about Hormones

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment that involves taking hormones to replace the ones that the body no longer produces or produces in insufficient quantities. This therapy is commonly used to treat symptoms, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, decreased libido, weight fluctuation, insomnia and mood changes.

In women, HRT usually involves the use of estrogen and progesterone, either separately or in combination. Estrogen can be delivered through pills, patches, creams, or vaginal rings, while progesterone is usually taken in pill form. The type, dosage, and duration of hormone therapy may vary depending on individual circumstances, such as the age of the patient, her symptoms, and her overall health.

It is also worth noting that HRT is not appropriate for everyone, and there may be other treatment options available for managing menopause symptoms.

Testosterone

Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is a medical treatment that involves the use of testosterone to replace the hormone that the body is no longer producing in sufficient quantities. This therapy is typically used to treat men with low testosterone levels, also known as hypogonadism, which can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, weight changes, mood changes and decreased muscle mass in both men and women.

TRT can be administered in several forms, including injections, gels, patches, and pellets. The type, dosage, and frequency of TRT may vary depending on individual circumstances, such as the age of the patient, his symptoms, and his overall health.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

At IV and Me, we use bioidentical hormones. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a type of hormone replacement therapy that uses hormones that are identical in molecular structure to the hormones naturally produced by the body. BHRT is often used as an alternative to traditional hormone replacement therapy, which typically uses synthetic hormones.

BHRT involves the use of hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, which are derived from plant sources such as soy or yams. These hormones are then compounded by a pharmacy to create a customized dosage and delivery method that is tailored to the individual needs of the patient.

Proponents of BHRT claim that it is a safer and more effective alternative to traditional hormone replacement therapy, as it uses hormones that are identical to those produced by the body, and may be better tolerated by some patients. However, the safety and efficacy of BHRT have not been extensively studied, and there is some debate within the medical community about its use.

It is important to consult with a healthcare provider to discuss the potential risks and benefits of BHRT for your specific situation, and to determine whether it is an appropriate treatment option for you.

At IV and Me, Jennifer (NP) will sit down one on one to discuss your symptoms related to hormone imbalance and any questions you may have. Jennifer works closely with a specialized pharmacy to help develop a personal formulation specific and safe to each patient and their hormone needs. These needs are based upon laboratory studies (we help each patient obtain) and each patient's symptoms. Schedule now for an initial consult at $150 to get your feeling back to yourself!
